book review: Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

book review: Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

As usual, I don't provide the actual summaries and avoid spoilers.  I'm also not providing stars on any reviews here.  Just honest thoughts.

The cover of the book says there will be magic and murder.  It definitely delivers on the murder aspect but very little on magic.

It is a locked room murder mystery that transpires on a ship.  Twelve magical heirs means many characters to keep straight.  It gets easier to keep them straight as they drop like flies.

The only thing truly magical about the book is the main character, Ganymedes Piscero.  He's a bit of a class clown, a slacker and the lowest in the hierarchy.  He also happens to have a smart mouth and a heart of gold.

I think it is clear that my feelings on this book are kind of ho-hum. The world building was decent.   Read it if you like murder mystery but don't expect much in the way of actual magic.
